Serpent River First Nation man facing assault charge

East Algoma OPP has charged a Serpent River First Nation man with assault.

Constable Bev Gauthier says this past Sunday evening around 6 pm, officers responded to a disturbance at a local gas bar on Highway 17 in Serpent River First Nation.

She says the investigation determined an employee of the gas bar exited the business with a knife in their hand, yelling and approaching the complainant.

She says words were exchanged, the knife was put away, but a physical altercation took place and ended with the accused being subdued.

Gauthier says a 20-year-old man from the First Nation has been charged with assault and is to appear in Elliot Lake court on April 6th.
