Espanola judge fines Simcoe hunter for illegal hunting

A Simcoe man has been fined by the Espanola court for unlawfully hunting big game without a licence and abandoning his kill.

Justice of the Peace Lori-Ann Toulouse heard the case in Espanola court early last month.

She heard testimony that Aaron Elyk of Simcoe shot and killed a cow moose near Sables Lake but was not licenced to do so.

He also abandoned the moose, causing spoilage.

Elyk pled guilty to both charges, receiving a fine of $3,755 for the illegal hunt and $11,255 for abandoning the cow.

His hunting licences were also cancelled, and he is prohibited from hunting in Ontario for two years.
