65-year-old dead after fire on Washington Crescent this morning

A 65-year-old is dead after an apartment fire on Washington Crescent in Elliot Lake early this morning.

East Algoma OPP says at approximately 12:00 am on Dec. 30, officers responded to a call about the fire.

Officials say The Elliot Lake Fire Department was already on scene and had located someone inside. They add they were then transported to hospital by Algoma Paramedic Services but the person was later pronounced deceased.

The Office of the Fire Marshal and the OPP’s Forensic Identification Services are assisting the ELFD. There is no foul play suspected at this time.

The investigation is ongoing under the direction of the Office of the Chief Coroner and the Ontario Forensic Pathology Service (OCC-OFPS).

A post-mortem examination will take place at a later date.
