Drug bust in Espanola leads to the arrest of six people

A warrant executed at a residence on Albert Street in Espanola by the OPP led to the arrest of six people.

Constable Jessica Gilbertson says at around six pm last Thursday, the police executed the warrant and searched the residence seizing suspected crack cocaine, crystal meth and fentanyl with an estimated street value of around $17,000 and just under $800 in cash.

She says four men and two women have been arrested and charged with a variety of charges including possession and obstruction of police.

The six are to appear in Espanola court early in the new year.

The charges are as follows …

A 19-year-old man from Toronto, was charged with:

  •   Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine contrary to section 5(2) CDSA
  •   Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking – opioid (other than heroin) contrary to section 5(2) CDSA
  •   Possession property obtained by crime under $5,000 contrary to section 354(1)(a) of the Criminal Code (CC)
  •   Obstruct peace officer contrary to section 129(a) CC

The accused is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on January 16, 2023.

A 59-year-old woman from Espanola, was charged with:

  •   Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine contrary to section 5(2) CDSA
  •   Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking – opioid (other than heroin) contrary to section 5(2) CDSA
  •   Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine contrary to section 5(2) CDSA

A 23-year-old man from Sudbury, as charged with:

  •   Possession of a prohibited device or ammunition contrary to section 92(2) CC
  •   Possession of a Schedule I Substance – cocaine contrary to section 4(1) CDSA
  •   Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine contrary to section 5(2) CDSA
  •   Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking – opioid (other than heroin) contrary to section 5(2) CDSA

A 32-year-old man from Espanola, was charged with:

  •   Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine contrary to section 5(2) CDSA
  •   Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking – opioid (other than heroin) contrary to section 5(2) CDSA

A 30-year-old from Espanola, was charged with:

  •   Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine contrary to section 5(2) CDSA
  •   Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking – opioid (other than heroin) contrary to section 5(2) CDSA

A 30-year-old woman from Espanola, was charged with:

  •   Possession of a Schedule I Substance – opioid (other than heroin) contrary to section 4(1) CDSA
  •   Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking – cocaine contrary to section 5(2) CDSA
  •   Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking – opioid (other than heroin) contrary to section 5(2) CDSA

The remainder of accused people are set to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Espanola on Feb. 13, 2023.
