Waubetek’s long-time leader to be honoured nationally

Dawn Madahbee Leach, the long-time general manager at the Waubetek Business Development Corporation based out of Whitefish River First Nation is to receive national recognition.

Madahbee Leach will receive a Lifetime Achievement Award from the Canadian Council of Aboriginal Business during its Central Business Forum and Awards Dinner in Toronto on February 7th.

According to the council, the award is presented to a First Nations, Inuit, or Métis person whose business leadership has made a substantive contribution to the economic and social well-being of Indigenous people adding their decision was unanimous.

She hails Aundeck Omni Kaning on Manitoulin Island and has served as the general manager of Waubetek since 1988 providing financing and support to Indigenous entrepreneurs and businesses.

In 2018, Madahbee Leach was named one of Canada’s Most Powerful Women, and a year later received the Governor General’s Meritorious Service Cross.
