Blind River fills a council vacancy

Blind River council has filled a vacancy within its numbers at a special meeting on Monday.

In a closed session, council voted 4 to 2 in favour of appointing Dan Middaugh to the position.

The only other applicant was Nathan Mutch, the owner of the town’s Home Hardware.

Middaugh was born and raised in Blind River and is a long-time employee of the Cameco uranium plant.

Middaugh says he’s interested in improving recreational facilities, as well as working on infrastructure and learning about the day-to-day operations of the municipality.

He will join Mayor Sally Hagman, deputy mayor Paula Summers and councillors Betty Ann Dunbar, Jennifer Posteraro, Jim Dunbar, and Joe Connell.

He fills a vacancy left after the other five members of council had been acclaimed in the municipal election.
