Elliot Lake council agrees to sell former mall property

The former Algo Mall property is to be sold as one of the first actions by the new council in Elliot Lake.

The mall property at 151 Ontario Avenue was purchased by the city back in April as a possible site for a new art hub, but funding from the upper levels of government fell apart.

The property once housed the former Algo Mall where two women lost their lives in a roof collapse back in 2012.

Re-elected councillor Norman Mann made the motion to sell adding he campaigned for its sale and would like to see it developed or either or both residential and business projects.

Council unanimously voted to sell the property and will consider severance applications by developers who come forward with feasible projects.
