33rd Annual Northern Ontario Country Music Award – two locals are inductees

Two local area musicians, one from Blind River, and the other from Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory were inducted into the Northern Ontario Country Music Hall of Fame this weekend.
Wiikwemkoong Elder, Urban Mejaki, a role model and leader in the community who
has shared his talents for years was acknowledged for his support of culture throughout First Nations
and non-native communities in Northern Ontario.
Lois Jones from Blind River was also inducted as a representative of the Algoma District, for her
individual as well as group contributions through the Women in Song, a local musical trio that has
entertained audiences for over 20 years, has raised over $20,000 in charity dollars and written many original songs.
Both were inducted into the Great Northern Opry at a gala held in Sault Ste. Marie this weekend.
