Over $650,000 is going to 13 community-led infrastructure projects around the north, including our area.
The North Bay and Area Community Foundation and Anthony Rota, MP for Nipissing-Timiskaming, announced the funding as part of the federal government’s Healthy Communities Initiative.
Officials say the money helps partners build safer spaces and ensure a higher quality of life for people by helping communities adapt to the challenges presented by COVID-19.
“By investing in infrastructure, the Government of Canada is growing our country’s economy, increasing the resiliency of our communities, and enhancing the lives of Canadians, including right here in Northern Ontario,” says Rota. “This investment through the Canada Healthy Communities Initiative will help organizations find innovative local solutions to improve the lives of residents while strengthening communities.”
The following projects are being supported in Northern Ontario:
- Township of Hornepayne – Tablet Lending Library – $11,307
- Creative Industries – Downtown Waterfront Public Art – $33,362
- Wintergreen Fund for Conservation (Timmins) – Community Trail Revitalization – $89,855
- Centre Communautaire de Lavigne – Multi-use Park and Playground – $75,000
- Trauma Practices for Healthy Communities – Trauma Practice for Rural and Northern Ontario (Kenora, Rainy River, Thunder Bay, Cochrane, Algoma, Sudbury, Timiskaming, Nipissing, Manitoulin and Parry Sound) – $19,689
- White Water Gallery – Art Fix – Planting Seeds of Hope – $47,462
- Town of Cobalt – Historic Mining Camp Family Park – $70,000
- City of Sault Ste. Marie – Community Destination Waterfront Park – $35,039
- Sudbury Shared Harvest – Niigaansiiwin Solar Greenhouse Project – $34,800
- Township of Black River-Matheson – Poplar Park Playground – $75,000
- Ga Gitigemi Gamik (We Will Plant Lodge) Little Current – Agriculture Land Based Program – $100,000
- Township of O’Connor – Accessibility Ramp Replacement – $45,116
- Township of Terrace Bay – Community Event Tents – $17,000
