It is Election Day 2022

School board and municipal candidates will be watching the polls closely with today being Election Day 2022.

Most unofficial results are expected to be in after the polls close today with municipalities across Ontario using online or phone voting.

However, some municipalities, such as Nairn & Hyman Township, are still using paper ballots so voting is open to everyone until 8 pm this evening.

The Moose will go live with coverage at 8 pm for the Algoma, Manitoulin and Sudbury districts.

The results are expected to be certified by tomorrow or Wednesday.

Over 400 municipalities are electing councils, with more than 28-hundred seats up for grabs, but 20 percent have already been filled by acclamation.

More than 63-hundred people registered as candidates to run this year.

That’s in addition to the thousands running for school board seats.

More than half of Ontario’s municipalities have allowed on-line or phone voting this year, an increase of 24 percent since 2018.
