First time renting? Here are some tips

If your son or daughter is going off to post-secondary school and it s their first time renting a place, they need to know their rights as tenants. Minister of Municipal Affairs and Housing Ted McMeekin warns about landlords who ask for more than they are entitled to.

McMeekin says landlords can ask for first and last months rent, but nothing more. He also says they need to give notice before coming inside the house or apartment.

Make sure your student is informed of their rights before they become a tenant.
