Sharing First Nation stories, especially focusing on residential schools is the focus of Truth and Reconciliation Day across the country.
Locally, Sagamok-Anishnabek First Nation will host an information slowdown at the intersection of Highway 6 and 17 from 12 noon to 3:30 pm followed by a candlelight vigil at East Point Beach at 7:30 pm.
The slowdown will also include special dances and a drumming circle.
The OPP is aware of the slowdown and will also be on-site to ensure the smooth movement of traffic through the major intersection.
Originally called Orange Shirt Day, students will also learn the story and its’ significance to First Nations, especially survivors of residential schools with others hosting ceremonies and powwows.
