Sports – Sale of Elliot Lake Red Wings

The Elliot Lake Junior Hockey organization has announced the sale the Elliot Lake Red Wings of the Northern Ontario Junior Hockey League.

The team has been sold to the management company owned by Paul Noad, (NODE) which has overseen hockey operations for the team for the past two seasons.

In announcing the sale Len Kutchaw, the President of Elliot Lake Junior Hockey says the organization received the initial funding from the City of Elliot Lake to purchase the franchise and launch operations, which has now been fully repaid.

He adds the sale is effective as of October 1st.

Added Kutchaw “The hockey fans in the community should also take comfort in
knowing that the sale agreement – which has been approved by the NOJHL – requires that Elliot Lake Junior Hockey retains the right of first refusal if the team is to be moved or sold.” However, Noad states:

“We have no intention of moving the team – as long as the fans and the community support us, we’ll be here.”
Paul Noad has a wealth of hockey experience both as a player and in management and has an extensive business background.

Noad originally was attracted to the community due to hockey, but since arriving
has invested both time and money into other projects.

“I see a great future in Elliot Lake. This faith led me to purchase the curling club to bring curling back to the community, and I have opened a Steam Canada franchise here as well. I am here for the long term.” stated Noad.

Added Noad “The commitment shown to the community by Len and the rest of the Junior Hockey board really convinced me that Elliot Lake is a solid place to invest.

I foresee good things here, not just in terms of hockey, but with my other businesses as well; in fact, I am already currently looking to hire more staff.”
