French Catholic board offering PSW training

Starting in November, Carrefour Options+, Conseil scolaire catholique Nouvelon’s continuing education school, will offer the Personal Support Worker program in Sudbury.

Education director Paul Henry says it will be offered to students 18 years of age and older.

The program will allow those interested in becoming a PSW to be trained in French to provide care to individuals and families in a variety of settings, including long-term residential institutions and community home care agencies.

Henry says students will not have to pay tuition fees for their theoretical component and will also be paid during their placements.

He adds CSC Nouvelon is the second school board to offer this program in French in Ontario.

He says this PSW program will provide caregivers with the essential knowledge, skills, techniques and abilities associated with this position. They will be able to help clients of all ages with daily activities, including personal care, home management, nutrition and family responsibilities. The PSWs will pop be able to meet the needs of each person on the emotional, cognitive, spiritual, cultural and physical levels.

Henry says persons interested in the program are required to take part in one of the information sessions scheduled for Wednesday, October 5, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m., Thursday, October 6, from 1 to 3 p.m., or Wednesday, October 12, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.

It is possible to register for these sessions and obtain more information by contacting Jocelyne Leclair, Carrefour Options+ Principal, at 705-525-0110 or [email protected]. Carrefour Options+ is located at 504 St-RaphaĂ«l Street in Sudbury.
