Three OPP officers are each facing a charge of manslaughter and criminal negligence causing death, following the November, 2020 death of a one-year-old boy near Peterborough.
The charges were laid by the province’s Special Investigations Unit.
The three were involved in the chase of a man suspected of abducting his son in the Kawartha Lakes area.
The suspect’s pickup truck crashed into an OPP cruiser, seriously injuring one officer.
There was then an interaction with the suspect, and police opened fire.
The man died in hospital several days later.
The baby, who was a passenger in the truck, was hit by the gunfire, and pronounced dead at the scene.
