Espanola hosting walk for International Awareness Overdose Day

A local advocacy group in Espanola has partnered with Public Health Sudbury & Districts to host a walk as part of International Awareness Overdose Day.

Linda Collins, a local organizer says the agency will be making a presentation following the inaugural walk focusing on the issue.

Collins says more programs and supports are needed to help the wider community understand the wider ramifications opioid addiction has on families, friends and the community at large.

She adds homelessness and poverty only aggravate the crisis, so real solutions must be found to help lift an individual out of addiction.

She says the walk will be held from 12 noon until two pm on August 31st starting out from the town office down Highway Six to the Espanola Mall where public health will host their demonstration.

Everyone is invited to attend and are encouraged to wear purple in support of the initiative.
