Manitoulin OPP respond to serious collision on Highway 6

Manitoulin OPP has confirmed a single motor vehicle collision was behind the closure of Highway Six for several hours on the holiday weekend.

Constable Tessa Kasch says police were called out on Sunday just before five am to respond to the incident where a motor vehicle left the roadway and struck a rock cut on Willisville Mountain, about 20 minutes south of Espanola.

She says the lone occupant was transported by Air ORNGE to Health Sciences North adding the only highway connecting Manitoulin Island to the mainland was closed until early afternoon on Haweater Sunday, one of the busiest days of the year.

Kasch says the investigation is continuing.
