A premier Northern Ontario event hopes to return to its pre-pandemic glory in this, its’ 115th year!
Dianne Emiry, the president of the Massey Agricultural Society says the organization has been busy preparing for a full slate of events at the annual Massey Fair once again including popular events such as the demolition derby, heavy horse pull, the return of the midway, and plenty of games, workshops, entertainment and vendors on site.
The society hosted drastically scaled down versions of the fair during the pandemic, but everyone is itching for the return of the fair in its full glory.
She says the three-day event themed Year of the Garden is set to take place August 26th to 28th on the fairgrounds in Massey.
Emiry adds registration for workshops and competitions will be available soon, so photographers, painters, craftspeople, and especially members of the agricultural community are encouraged to register or volunteer and make this fair one like no other.
She adds there will be workshops throughout the weekend as well for those who wish to take part in Year of the Garden-themed gatherings, so want a green thumb, this might be up your alley.
Exhibit competition booklets are now available for those who wish to take part.
Emiry adds registration is important in order for the fair to run smoothly, so if you plan to enter an event, such as the horse competitions or derby, make sure to visit their site to obtain the registration information you will need to take part.
This is very much a family event, she adds with families taking part in the annual parade and wide variety of competitions. The local 4-H members will also be on site. Family entertainment will include a talent show, free face painting for children, a chicken show from the Grow a Chick program and so much more for the kiddos.
The fair also includes animal exhibits including those entered for competition from chickens to rabbits, calves to goats and so much more. Northern Exotics will also be on site.
Emiry says this year they are also introducing a sheep shearing demonstration and other hand on activities.
The weekend also includes the popular stand-by, the demolition derby as well as the ATV Mud Bogs, so getting down and dirty is more than welcome.
A full schedule of events is expected to be finalized within the next two weeks.
