Religious group finds another home

A religious order in Elliot Lake will now have a new church following the rezoning of a building by Elliot Lake council.

Council approved the rezoning of the former Creative Glass building located at 26 Ontario Avenue allowing for renovations as a church and meeting place.

Church of Latter-Day Saints spokesperson Amir Bashir says the members were left without a place to meet when the Lester B. Pearson Civic Centre suffered a catastrophic collapse of its roof.

He says with the demolition of the building, and then the pandemic, church members had no place to host services and other meetings, but with the approval of council, they are looking forward to once again being able to meet regularly.

He says there are some 50 members within the community who are pleased to finally have a new home to practice their religion.
