SIU discontinues investigation into women’s arrest in Elliot Lake

The Special Investigations Unit has closed an investigation into an incident involving East Algoma OPP in Elliot Lake.

SIU director, Joseph Marino, says a 30-year-old woman from Elliot Lake, was arrested, not once, but twice by OPP, on July 2nd and 3rd.

He says the two incidents involved the woman having two alcohol run-ins with officers and that a level of force was used to take her into custody.

Following her release on the third, he adds she went to hospital and was diagnosed with a possible fracture of her right wrist, but a further examination showed she had suffered no broken bones.

Marino says based on those preliminary findings, the investigation is now closed.
