Politicians respond to homelessness challenge from Elliot Lake Mayor

Two mayors and the MP for the riding have responded to a challenge by the mayor of Elliot Lake.

Elliot Lake Mayor Dan Marchisella announced last week that he will spend a week homeless from June 20th to 25th as a fundraiser for the men’s shelter Larry’s Place.

He wants to raise $5,000 but also challenged other government officials to step up.

Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing MP Carol Hughes says she is unable to attend since she will be sitting in the House of Commons but has responded with a financial donation and will visit participants on June 24th.

Township of North Shore Mayor Tony Moor says he visited Larry’s place last week and plans to not only take a small role in the challenge but also to raise the issue with his council to find ways to raise awareness in the larger community.

Blind River Mayor Sally Hagman is also unable to attend but has also made a financial donation and plans to raise awareness and find concrete solutions with her council.
