Off to Finland in a month’s time

An Espanola man and his son are off to Finland in a month’s time for their first Scout World Jamboree. Scout leader Rob Haarmeyer says 31 local scouts and leaders will be flying out on July 9th to arrive in Helsinki as part of the 2022 KAJO Canada-Finland Jamboree.

He says the first four days will be spent exploring Helsinki, then heading to the jamboree where Scouts from all over Europe, Canada, United States, South America Asia and Australia will converge for a wide range of activities, including hiking, camping and developing life skills.

He says the troupe spent most of the pandemic using digital fundraisers to raise the funds for the memorable trip adding fundraising is ongoing and donations are appreciated.

He says for many youths this is the first time they’ve ever traveled across the ocean and will get to experience a jamboree of this magnitude. Haarmeyer adds they are still fundraising via bottle drives, the Copper Cliff troupe’s yard sale this Saturday and an upcoming online auction. Haarmeyer says they are looking for donations for this auction of new or gently used items, so anyone who wishes to donate can contact him at: 705-920-2119.
