Laurentian University, in partnership with Health Sciences North, has obtained one-time funding from the Ontario government to deliver the accelerated Critical Care Nursing Program.
University Dean of the Faculty of Education and Health Dr. Céline Larivière says the Ministry of Health is providing some $800,000, just over $59,000 for this year and around $741,000 for the next school year.
She adds nursing care areas across Northern Ontario are expecting additional vacancies as a significant percentage of the workforce will be eligible to retire over the next four years.
Dr. Larivière says the program is slated to begin this summer.
