Incident on Swing Bridge leads to arrest

The Manitoulin OPP has charged an Island man following an incident on the Swing Bridge in Little Current.

Constable Tessa Kasch says on Wednesday evening around 10:30 pm, the OPP, UCCM Police and paramedics were called out to the bridge.

She says the investigation revealed the bridge was closed for repairs, but a vehicle came through and hit a worker’s vehicle, which in turn resulted in the worker being struck and injured.

Kasch says the worker was transported to hospital with minor injuries.

She adds the driver was stopped on Highway Six and was found to be impaired.

She says a 37-year-old man from Wiikwemkoong was charged with impaired, blowing over, dangerous operation, failure to remain at the scene of an accident and having open liquor in the vehicle.

Kasch adds the man is to appear in Gore Bay court on June 22nd to answer to the charges.
