Walk to raise funds for guide dogs

Elliot Lake’s Valu Walk for Dog Guides is held every Spring and for safety’s sake, will be held virtually again this year.

Elliot Lake Lions Club spokesperson Robert Kerr says the walk will begin March 29th, to raise funds for Canadians that have a medical or physical disability to be paired with dog guides.

He says the Lions foundation does not receive any government supports and relies solely on fundraising events and donations.

He adds it costs around $35,000 to train each dog at no cost to qualified applicants.

Kerr adds participants must register and record the kilometres they walk as part of the fundraiser.

Individuals can join the local walk before May 29 by registering at their website. Under fundraisers, choose “Elliot Lake Lions Club.”

Income Tax Receipts will be issued for all donations $20 and over.
