Women shelter supervisor arrested for fraud

A supervisor of the Mississauga First Nation Women’s Shelter has been charged for fraud.

That’s according to East Algoma OPP.

Constable Bev Gauthier says on March 9th, members of the crime unit began an investigation of possible fraud.

She says the investigations involved donations to the Mississauga First Nation Women’s Shelter in Mississauga First Nation.

Gauthier says the investigation revealed between March 1st and May 17th, the shelter received donations in the form of gift cards and merchandise from three local businesses in Blind River, which were used for personal use.

She says a 41-year-old woman from Blind River has been charged with fraud under $5,000 and criminal breach of trust

Gauthier says the woman is to appear in Elliot Lake court on July 7th.

She adds anyone with information regarding the investigation should contact the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122 or their nearest police authority.
