Algoma-Manitoulin-Kapuskasing MP Carol Hughes addressed the House of Commons on women’s issues yesterday.
Hughes says the recently leaked draft opinion revealed that the United States Supreme Court is considering overturning Roe v. Wade, a landmark decision on abortion rights.
She notes this unprecedented disclosure raises deep concerns about the existing guarantees of abortion access, and it’s more important than ever to ensure that reproductive rights and justice are protected in Canada.
Hughes says she made the statement to draw attention to the fact women in rural and remote communities often face barriers to access and it is paramount that those barriers be removed, not only for the rich, but for all women.
