Espanola council seat declared vacant

An Espanola councillor’s seat has been declared vacant following a court decision.

That’s according to the town of Espanola, who says Thursday, an Ontario court ruled that Maureen Van Alstine contravened section 5 of the Municipal Conflict of Interest Act.

Espanola Town Clerk Joseph Burke says council will be deliberating on the preferred process for filling the vacancy at its next regular meeting.
