Elliot Lake council has cleared another hurdle for the Elliot Lake Emergency Food Bank to establish a permanent location in the city.
Council approved selling some city-owned property on Oakland Boulevard near the Oaks Centre to the food bank for $26,000 with councillors advocating how important the service is for the community.
The food bank provides supports for an average of 200 people every week.
The sale agreement and required bylaw were both approved by council clearing the way for the food bank to begin the design stage and site plan for the new 3,000-square foot structure, but no timeline was provided.
