Elections also underway for social administration boards

The public will go to the polls this fall to elect members of council and school board trustees, but not all may be aware elections are also underway for candidates to sit on social services boards.

The District of Sault Ste. Marie Social Services Administration Board is seeking two members and nomination papers must be submitted by August 19th.

The election will be carried out by mail.

The Manitoulin-Sudbury DSAB is also looking for three representatives for both the Manitoulin and Sudbury districts.

Nomination papers must submitted to that board by August 19th as well.

Election Day is set for Monday, October 24th with the successful candidates starting their new terms on January 1st, 2023.

For the Algoma District, nominations forms can be found at https://saultstemarie.ca/Cityweb/media/City-Clerk/Election/2022/Nomination-Paper-Form-1-English.pdf. Officials say before incurring any expenses or collecting any money, candidates must file a nomination paper on the prescribed form with the filing fee of $100 (cash, debit or certified cheque) with the City Clerk, City of Sault Ste. Marie, at the Ronald A. Irwin Civic Centre, 99 Foster Drive, Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.

Appointments are encouraged to ensure availability.

Nominations will be accepted between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. Monday to Friday beginning Monday, May 2, 2022 (excepting statutory holidays) until Friday, August 19, 2022 at 2:00 p.m.

For the Manitoulin-Sudbury Districts, there is no filing fee … contact the returning officer for a copy of the nomination papers via phone at 1-800-667-3145, extension 401 or by visiting the DSAB office in Espanola, Little Current, Noelville or Chapleau.
