Blind River council wants to meet with officials of Elliot Lake’s Maplegate House for Women before deciding on a request for funding.
Blind River council received a letter from Maplegate representative Theresa Hiuser asking the municipality donate $10,000 annually to help support the services for homeless men, women, and children in the area.
The organization has approached local municipalities in the past for funding to assist people throughout its service area including Blind River.
However, councillors were reluctant to make the request an annual part of the budget more so since a new council coming into place following the fall election.
A request will be sent to the Maplegate organization to come before council with more details before a final decision is made.
