Outbreak declared at St. Joseph’s General Hospital

A section of St. Joseph’s General Hospital Elliot Lake is closed to the public because of a COVID-19 outbreak.

Hospital CEO Jeremy Stevenson says the third floor has been closed to all visitors except on compassionate grounds after Algoma Public Health declared a COVID-19 outbreak.

He adds existing visitation protocols remain in place for the rest of the building and there are currently no active cases at St. Joseph’s Manor or the Oaks Centre.

The hospital will update the situation when there are any changes.

He would like to remind everyone there are several things that can be done to protect yourself and others from COVID-19.

  • Wash your hands often with soap and water or use an alcohol-based sanitizer.
  • If you are not feeling well, stay home and rest or contact your primary health care provider.
  • Observe social distancing, and respiratory etiquette.

For more information on COVID-19, contact the Algoma Public Health at: (705) 356-2551 ext. 5012 or contact your family health care provider.
