East Algoma OPP lays assault charges

East Algoma OPP has laid assault charges against a Sudbury woman involving an altercation at a social gathering.

Constable Bev Gauthier says on Friday evening, police were called out to a social gathering at a residence in Serpent River First Nation.

She says the investigation determined people were socializing when a person arrived, and a physical altercation then allegedly took place.

Gauthier says an individual sustained a head injury and was taken to Elliot Lake hospital to be treated.

She says police arrested a 27-year-old woman from Sudbury who has been charged with one count each of assault with a weapon, assault causing bodily harm, uttering death threats and mischief under $5,000.

Gauthier adds the accused is to appear in Elliot Lake court on July 7th.
