Annuities talks underway once again

Negotiations are getting underway involving the Robinson Huron Treaty Litigation Fund and the provincial and federal governments.

The Robinson Huron Treaty First Nations have outstanding litigation against both Canada and Ontario relating to treaty annuities – with officials saying the goal is to resolve the case outside of court.

Wiikwemkoong Unceded Territory Chief Duke Peltier says it has been a long journey to get to this point and they’re ready to work with their treaty partners toward a settlement.

He adds they remain committed to ensuring the Robinson Huron Treaty is implemented.

The talks are confidential at this point.
