St Joe’s caps off bed campaign

St. Joseph’s General Hospital Foundation in Elliot Lake has completed another successful campaign.

Foundation Chair William Elliott says it took slightly over two years to raise the $324,000 needed to replace 54 beds at the hospital.

Hospital CEO Jeremy Stevenson says their beds are the centre of everything they do with every single patient from the birth of a new baby to the experience of a critical diagnosis.

Both leaders thank the public, various organizations, clubs and businesses that have provided their support to the campaign.

Foundation Chair William Elliott noted that once again Elliot Lake and the surrounding communities were quick to step up and help out. The campaign was launched in (November 2020) and was immediately well received. “Numerous organizations, businesses and individuals came forward to donate, many choosing to ‘buy a bed’, or in some cases, several.” said Elliott.

In late March of this year the Foundation received notice that Rogers Communications would be donating $25,000 to the campaign, which represented the final amount needed to complete the project.

Referencing the need for the bed replacement, hospital CEO Jeremy Stevenson said this vital equipment is used 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, and the end of their lifecycle brings the opportunity for replacement with new technology and materials, which ultimately enhance the patient experience. We are thrilled that through the support of our Foundation’s campaign, our donors have enabled us to provide our patients with the latest technology that will significantly enhance their care.” The Foundation Board, in conjunction with hospital administration, is currently reviewing potential projects for the next campaign, and information will be forthcoming as soon as the Board has made a decision.
