There is a new judge in Elliot Lake

A former assistant Crown attorney has been appointed to the Ontario Court of Justice to oversee court in Elliot Lake.

According to the release from the Attorney General’s office, Justice Dana Peterson has been assigned to Elliot Lake as of last Friday.

Peterson has been an assistant Crown attorney since called to the bar in 2002 and became the designated bilingual assistant Crown attorney for the District of Algoma in 2017.

Responsible for domestic violence, mental health and youth specialized courts as an assistant Crown attorney, she established a youth justice committee in the Algoma District and integrated aspects of mental health, drug treatment and alternative courts in Sault Ste. Marie.

More recently, Peterson served as the north regional sexual violence Crown and as a member of the sexual violence advisory group.
