A moose in the Nairn Centre area has gone viral.
Since the story broke, dozens of people have taken the drive to see the female moose who has been bedding down beside Highway 17.
The Ministry of Natural Resources and Forestry is aware of the situation and is taking a wait-and-see approach. The Manitoulin OPP has patrolled the area due to the heavy congestion of parked vehicles at certain times of the day.
The safety of the moose and the public is of the utmost concern, but the attention is leading to problems with highway safety and the possible detrimental effect on the animal.
The public is asked not to feed or approach the moose since she is a wild animal and if she no longer has a food source, it is hoped she will move back into the denser bush where she will be safer.
