Totten Mine east of Nairn reopening

Totten Mine located just east of Nairn Centre has reopened after being shut down for nearly six months.

According to Northern Ontario Business, head of Vale Ontario Operations, Gord Gilpin says the mine has reopened following repairs to a shaft that was damaged back on September 27th.

He says 39 miners were detained underground because of the damage, so the company is doing everything to ensure the incident does not occur again.

Gilpin says a bucket had come loose and lodged in the elevator shaft and the miners had to use another shaft to exit the underground, adding there were no injuries.

He adds all the miners and other employees have returned to work at the site this week.
