Reconciliation Walk attracts large crowd

A joint Walk for Reconciliation had many community members take part.

Community members from Massey and Sagamok-Anishinabek First Nation held a joint walk last Friday to share a message of reconciliation with around 100 people taking part.

Although Sagamok Gimaa Alan Ozawanimke was not in attendance, he did provide a statement through his council that reconciliation will need both First Nations and non-natives to work together.

Organizers say the event was also in reaction to the release of videos on social media showing a male youth from Massey drinking and dancing to a drum song with a Every Child Matters flag wrapped around their body while others around him laughed and cheered him on.

Manitoulin OPP is continuing their investigation to see if the social media posts are considered racist.
