The Espanola Lions Club has donated to the North Shore Search and Rescue to help with the purchase of a rescue boat.
Lions’ spokesperson Grant Lewis says they presented a cheque for $5,000 to help the rescue unit in the purchase of a new Zodiac boat, which will help the local volunteers improve their ability to do their job.
He says at this time, there is no such boat available for rescue on local waterways and so far, there have been several calls where a Zodiac would have been a great asset.
Lewis says the cost of such a craft runs close to $15,000.
North Shore Search and Rescue is now halfway there, thanks to the Lions donation and the road toll they held last fall.
