Elliot Lake is the site for its first ever strongman competition. The event is next week on Saturday and features competitors from Elliot Lake, the North Shore and across the province. The contest is billed as the North Shore Strongman Competition and is open to men and women. Events for the women include flipping a 350 pound tire and the men will flip an 850 pound tire plus pull a truck. Among the competitors are Fern Boucher. At 75, Boucher holds the Guinness record in his age bracket for the heaviest dead lift.  Canadian strongman Maxime Boudreault will also be there and he’ll carry 400 pounds in each hand. All the lifting, flipping and pulling takes place at Centennial Arena and admission is $5. Kids 12 and under get in free if they’re with an adult.
