Espanola council has unanimously voted to reject moving into phase two of a dog park for Espanola following a lack of input from the public.
There was no discussion held on a recommendation from Leisure Services, which recommended council not proceed with Phase 2 of the consultative community process and the development of an Off-Leash Dog Park based on the limited amount of interest, engagement, and support generated by the phase-one community survey.
Council directed staff to initiate a community consultation process regarding the potential to develop an off-leash dog park on the vacant greenspace fronting Algoma Street from Mead Boulevard to Marguerite Street.
Staff created a survey in consultation with Rainbow District Animal Services & Bylaw Enforcement and distributed the survey to 97 homes located in the immediate neighbourhood of the proposed park as the first phase of the consultation process.
The town only received around 10 responses, so the plans for a dog park have been shelved.
