Two community-minded residents of Elliot Lake are working on establishing a local historical society in the city.
Well-known citizens Marie Murphy-Foran and Edo Ten Broek are working on a plan to incorporate the Elliot Lake Historical Society as a non-profit in the city.
The duo strongly believe it would add to the culture of the city, attract tourists and would be able to provide activities and contributions to various local groups, such as the mining museum, the library, local attractions including nature trails and more.
The two made it clear this is a community-driven initiative, which does not involve the municipal government, but would work closely with the Ontario Historical Society based in Toronto.
The two are looking at having an elected board of volunteers administer the operation of the society and raise funds through an annual membership fee.
