More COVID19 measures in Algoma District possible

Algoma Public Health is considering more COVID19 measures to slow the spread of COVID-19 in the Algoma District.

Associate Medical Officer of Health, Dr. John Tuinema reported five people in the public health region have died from COVID-19 over the past week, bringing the total to 14.

He adds there are currently 255 active cases in the region, with 16 people hospitalized.

He states the health unit is actively reviewing options that are tailored to local transmission patterns in consultation with local stakeholders and Ontario’s chief medical officer of health.

He says more vaccine appointments and walk-in opportunities could be announced as early as next week since the district has seen nearly 400 new cases of the virus during the month of November alone.

Public Health Sudbury & Districts is reporting 274 active cases while Health Sciences North has 33 admitted patients with 6 individuals in intensive care.
