Elliot Lake looks at prefabricated building(s) for recreation hub

The City of Elliot Lake has had to revamp, redesign and reduce their expectations when it comes to the building of a recreational hub.

Funding was the biggest issue, so the original concept has been revamped to allow for a pool, arena and walking track.

City CAO Daniel Gagnon says in late September, staff presented to the Ad Hoc Recreation Hub Committee its findings from two August town hall meetings and was directed to obtain pricing on pre-engineered structures.

He told council they need expertise in determining how to find the best price and design putting a motion on the floor that council hire the firm IDEA, which has worked with the city on its previous traditional construction design and is aware of what the community needs.

He adds IDEA has quoted $29,895 to take on the role as intermediary between the city and the manufacturers, look at various designs, prepare site plan options and more.

Council agreed to hire the firm, which must have the report completed by mid-December to meet funding deadlines.
