Layoffs to continue at Lockerby Mine

First Nickel in Sudbury will soon have a big decision to make.  The company has to decide whether to put its Lockerby Mine in a holding pattern or shut it down completely.  The company has been laying off employees because of the low price of nickel.  The rest of the workforce, about 90 miners, will be let go by September.  Only four employees will remain to keep Lockerby in a holding mode.  Right now nickel sells for under $5 a pound and First Nickel needs a price of $7 a pound to pay the bills.
