FONOM announces resource sharing with municipalities

The Federation of Northern Ontario Municipalities welcomed the announcement yesterday that the province has agreed to share resource extraction revenues with Northern Ontario municipalities.

FONOM President Danny Whalen says the new revenue-sharing arrangement will see funds dispersed to municipalities to help offset costs of repairs and maintenance of local infrastructure impacted by resource operations.

Whalen says FONOM lobbied for the change and the news is welcome since it will help communities address their impacted road networks,

FONOM is an association of some 110 districts and municipalities in Northeastern Ontario mandated to work for the betterment of municipal government across the North.
