Elliot Lake council hires company for GIS

Elliot Lake council has given its approval to hiring a Sault-Ste. Marie based company to develop the GIS project.

Information Technology Director, Robyn Scott says a GIS is a geographic information system, a computer system for capturing, storing, checking, and displaying data related to positions on Earth’s surface.

She adds it show different kinds of data on one map, such as streets and buildings enabling people to see, analyze, and understand patterns and relationships more easily.

Scott told council time is of the essence in selecting a supplier to services to create the GIS system because of a deadline of September 2022 for the grant.
