Layoff notices have started at First Nickel`s Lockerby Mine in Sudbury. The company has given notices to 26 employees and this group will be out of work by mid-July. It`s the first round of job losses expected at the mine as First Nickel copes with low nickel prices. Last month First Nickel said it was stopping production at Lockerby after the ore runs out because nickel fell below $6 a pound. Four weeks later, the price has worsened and nickel now goes for $4.95 a pound.
