COVID-19 cases surging in local districts

Both the Algoma and Sudbury health units are reporting surges in COVID-19 cases over weekend.

As of Sunday evening, the Algoma Public Health reported dozens of new cases leading to the agency alerting all residents of an increased risk of COVID-19 due to local community transmission, most of them in Sault Ste. Marie.

There are now 135 active cases in the Algoma District with 13 individuals in hospital.

Public Health Sudbury & Districts is reporting one death due to COVID.

There are now 281 active cases in the Sudbury and Manitoulin Districts, the majority in the City of Greater Sudbury.

Health Sciences North states there are 25 individuals admitted for COVID, 20 testing positive and five waiting for results.

There are two individuals in intensive care.
